John Smith OAM Shield
This annual event honours John Smith OAM, a life member and past president of Zone 2 (Newcastle) who worked closely with other Zones in his capacity as the Chair of the Bowls NSW Match Committee, a position that John served in for 13 years. John also represented Newcastle as a bowler for 206 games.
The event is between the Open and Senior sides of Greater Newcastle (Zone 2), Hunter Valley (Zone 6), Metro North-West (Zone 10) and Central Coast (Zone 15).

The 2025 John Smith OAM Shield, hosted at East Cessnock Lawn Bowls on Saturday, 8th and Sunday, 9th February 2025.
Results
Metro North-West took out 1st place overall largely on the back of 3 strong wins by the Open Squad. This is a terrific improvement after our 3rd place performance in 2024.

Congratulations to Zone 2 on an amazing performance over the weekend, finishing with 54 out of a possible 60 points, losing only 4 rinks and drawing 2! They certainly proved to be a formidable combination.
