Results

  • Game 1 v Z15 – Fours lost by 2, Pairs won by 2, Triples drew.
  • Game 2 v Z12 – (R-up). Pairs lost by 5, Triples lost by 1, Fours lost by 4.
  • Game 3 v Z16 – Pairs won by 14. Triples lost by 5. Fours lost by 10.
  • Game 4 v Z13 – (winners). Lost all 3 rinks
  • Game 5 v Z5 – Won all 3 rinks.

The squad performed admirably given that after all the withdrawals, the average age just reached 17 – by far the youngest side that competed. We had two 13yr olds and five 15yrs or younger – 7 juniors in total.

“With most of their opponents being a decade older and a decade more experienced, they held their own in most games. Great leadership and support from Zac Corr-Johnson (Carlingford) and Adoni. Tom and Katie, still both juniors, rounded out the leadership group that made mature decisions regarding playing positions, and supported the very young girls unconditionally. I’m very proud to be associated with such a fine group of young men and women! “

2023 NSW Junior 7-A-Side Inter-Zone Championships

Congratulations our team representing Zone 10 at the NSW Junior 7-A-Side Inter-Zone Championships in Dubbo in August.

This is the pinnacle event for juniors representing their Zone. Players qualified for this event through selection at Zone level.

The tournament matches Zone Sides in sectional play before the top teams progress to the semi-finals and final.

As always, a big thank you to all the parents and carers & volunteer coaches, for supporting the team and making the long road trip. The kids could not do it without you!!

2021-22 Under 25s Interzone

23rd January 2022 at Dapto BC

We had a wonderful day at Dapto Citizens BC with our 9 under 25 team. We had a slow start against Z12 (eventual winners) losing our 3 rinks. After an inspirational talk by Jackeroo Ben Twist the boys (and Isabella Swan) won all 3 rinks against Z15. The third game after lunch against Z16 went against us 2 rinks to one.

Having a 10 year old (Luke Kennedy NBC) was terrific as was Isabella Swan WL who is a very new bowler.

Jack McShane and Ryan Kennedy in the pairs did particularly well, winning 2 rinks to one. They certainly carried on the form from the South Pacific under 18 open event as runners up. Jack also won the under 18 singles!

It was good to see Sam Hatch back on the green playing great competitive bowls skipping the Triples. Overall Zone 10 finished 3rd on 8 points, one point behind the second placed home side.

2021 U25 Round Robin

Congratulations to the following players selected to represent Zone 10 at the U25 round robin at Wyong BC on Sunday 17th January 2021.

2020 Junior Metro Shield

After a successful 2019 for our Zone 10 Juniors, it was very important that we came out in 2020 in a similar fashion.
Our under 25’s team which consisted of 6 Juniors, went on to win the Under 25’s Metro Shield in January and those 6 players then backed up alongside 3 new faces to the Zone 10 Juniors Academy to finish 2nd in the Junior Metro Shield which took place on Sunday 1st of March at St Marys RSL Club.

We played Zone 16 in game 1 knowing that it was going to be a tough match first up. Illawarra is renowned for not only having a large number of juniors but also having some of the best. It was a fairly slow start for our boys, a few nerves for some of our new players and unfortunately, Zone 16 got the better of us in the Triples and the Fours. Our Pairs managed to claim our first points of the day.

Game 2 saw us defeat Zone 5 (the host zone) in the pairs and triples and the fours clinching on to a tie with the last bowl from Michael Phillips.

In game 3, Zone 10 played against a new look Zone 13 side with lots of new juniors. We managed to take all the points which took us into lunch in equal 2nd position with only Zone 16 in front of us by 3 points.

Zone 12 was our next opposition and it’s never an easy game with their zone being made up by some of the powerhouse clubs in the state. Our pairs and fours managed to secure wins and our triples just missed out with Tom Holburn’s last bowl missing by millimetres to make a multiple.

Zone 16 dropped a rink in their 4th round which meant that we were still a chance of taking home the title. We took on Zone 15 in the last game who were only 2 points behind us on the leader board and defeated them on all 3 rinks.

Zone 16 also claimed 3 rink wins in the last round and were crowned champions of the day, leaving us in 2nd place only 3 points behind.

A special mention to our 3 boys who played their first game for the Zone: Nicholas Swan, Zachariah Kassis & Ashley Roberts. Also, to Ryan Kennedy & Matthew Swan for remaining undefeated all day. Matthew was also undefeated in the Under 25’s alongside Michael Phillips in the Pairs.

All of our boys represented the Zone perfectly and were gracious in defeat. All games were played in the true spirit in which they should be. A big thank you to our more experienced players guiding the beginners and encouraging new players from other zones.

Another thank you must go to the parents of our kids and to June Eckett for her help throughout the day and with uniforms.

2019 Under 25’s Challenge

at The Hills Bowling Club

Sunday 20th January 2019 at 8.30am

The best junior bowls talent in Western Sydney, North Western Sydney, South Western Sydney, Central & Southern Sydney, Illawarra & Central Coast assembled at The Hills Bowling Club for the 2019 Under 25’s Inter – Zone Challenge.

The teams included Australian Representative Ellen Ryan, State Open Squad members Mason Lewis, Billy Johnston, Dawn Hayman & Natalie Noronha & State under 25’s Squad members Kyle Hansen, Greg Jeans, Emmett McLeod, Beau Prideaux, Jamie-Lee Worsnop, Luke Grainger & Zach Robertson.

This event started in 2014 with Zone 5-10-12-13-16 and was recently joined by Zone 15 to make 5 quality games in the one day. The format for the day is teams of nine (3 Bowl Pairs – 12 ends, 2 Bowl Triples 12 ends, & Fours 10 ends with a time limit of 1.20 minutes).
After three games it was evenly poised with the host Zone 10 taking a three point lead over Zone 12 but they were due to play each other in round four which would no doubt be the crunch game.

Zone 10 went into the game against Zone 12 with plenty of confidence after defeating Zone 16, 5 & 13. It was evident from the start that Zone 12 were here to play bowls and show the large crowd why they were the favorites for this event. Zone 12 got off to a flyer with the fours discipline 5-1 lead after 4 ends & the triples 9-5 after 6 ends. Zone 12 showed their dominance to win the fours & Triples disciplines and drawing in the Pairs to beat Zone 10 5-1.

In the last round Zone 12 made light work of Zone 5 to ensure they would be the 2019 Under 25’s Inter – Zone Challenge. I would like to congratulate the players and officials for the way they conducted themselves throughout the day which was a credit to their Clubs & Zones.
